Banig Festival

The festival is Badian’s way of celebrating one of its premiere cottage industries, the Banig. Banig from Badian is made from pandan, which are sheered and then weaved into mats, bags and other products. The festival also celebrates the life of Badianganons,as its mat weaving craftsmanship comes into center stage every year. The celebration pays tribute to badianganons hard work and resiliency towards different challenges. The Banig products are not only in demand with the locals but also in international markets. With the rise of modernization, Banig is not only used as a mat but is also produced as hats, bags, placemats, and wall decorations, among others. It is celebrated conjugate with the annual fiesta celebration of the town, which is on July 24 – 25 in honor of St. James the Greater, the patron saint of the town.
