Palawod Festival

Palawod Festival is an annual celebration of the municipality of Bantayan every 29th of June in honor of the town’s Patron Saints: Sts. Peter and Paul. The festivity depicts the daily life of fishermen in the island. Palawod means to go out to the far reaches of the ocean to harvest its rich bounty. As Bantayan is surrounded by the ocean, some houses are built on stilts along the island’s coastline. This gives the local folk proximity to the wealth of the visayan sea and allows them to glean shellfish and sea shells along the tidal flats, sea grass beds and mangrove forests.
