PAMUGSAY FESTIVAL

“Pamugsay” is taken from the word “Bugsay”, a wooden paddle that is used to row a boat or banca, used by fishermen in fishing. Fishing is Pilar’s primary means of livelihood since Ponson island or Pilar town is surrounded by the sea. The “Pamugsay Festival” was conceptualized to pay respect to ancestors and the present day Pilaranons who are mostly dependent on fishing as their means of living. Pamugsay Festival is celebrated every December 2-3 during the town fiesta.
